Jimmy Demaret
In 1940, Jimmy Demaret won six out of nine tournaments he entered, including his first Masters. In 1947, he won five times, including his second victory at Augusta National, had the year’s lowest scoring average, and was the leading money winner on the “circuit” that would become the PGA Tour. In 1950 he became the first man to win the Masters three times. His first professional success had come in the 1934 Texas PGA, the first of five successive victories in that event.
His U.S. victories totaled 33, in addition to which he represented the United States three times in the Ryder Cup, achieving the rare distinction of winning all his matches. Amongst the many honors bestowed upon him were memberships in the PGA and World Golf Halls of Fame.
His good nature and enthusiasm won him wide applause as a commentator on the renowned Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf film series, along an enviable number of friends. A multi-dimensional man who lived life to the full, Jimmy Demaret was one of golf's greatest players and nicest people.
