Peter Thomson
Peter Thomson’s record of five British Open championship victories is surpassed only by that of Harry Vardon, and equaled by J.H. Taylor, James Braid, and Tom Watson. Thomson, a native of Australia, first went to Great Britain as a young professional in 1951, where he achieved great success. He won over 100 tournaments around the world, including the Open championships of New Zealand eight times, Italy, Spain, Germany and India twice.
Thomson has one of the richest and most diverse resumes ever assembled by a champion golfer. At various times and often simultaneously, Thomson has been a print journalist, a television commentator, Thomson is a designer and architect of more than 150 golf courses in Asia, Australia and Europe, and has been an international golf administrator instrumental to the start of professional tours in Austral-asia, a founder of a drug rehabilitation center in Melbourne, a candidate for his country’s parliament, and an accomplished painter and family man.
